Radiology
Radiology is the specialty service which uses different types of medical imaging of the internal body (bones or tissue) to assist with diagnosis of damage or disease, to inform the referrer on treatment options.
Health NZ South Canterbury radiology services are located at Timaru Hospital. The department offers state of the art equipment operated by registered health care professionals for interventional X-ray, Bone Density, CT, US and MRI procedures or examinations. Digital image technology allows for easy storage, fast reporting by medical staff and sharing of images with hospitals and health professionals involved in a patients care. Radiology provides 24-hour acute care to the Emergency Department and wards with community and outpatient services available Monday to Friday.

Referrals are by registered health professionals including GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Dentists, Podiatrists, Chiropractors and Specialists

- MRI Technologists who perform MRI examinations
- Sonographers who perform your ultrasound examination
