Orthotics
Orthotics is an integral component of services for people who have been assessed with a physical impairment and who require some form of Orthosis to improve function, and prevent, correct or protect the person from deformity. An Orthosis is a pre-fabricated, customised or custom made device applied to the exterior of the body.
Description
- This service can be accessed by people of all ages who may be affected by congenital, development or acquired conditions of the nervous system, musculoskeletal, neurological or medical conditions where people need to have their joints or muscles immobilised.
- Orthotic assessment, provision (production and fitting), and the review, repair and maintenance of orthoses & footwear can occur.
- Education of service users, and their carers in the use of their orthosis is provided.
- The Orthotist also participates in providing input into clinical education programmes.
