Rheumatology
Rheumatology is the diagnosis (detection) and treatment of musculoskeletal disease and systemic autoimmune conditions commonly referred to as rheumatic diseases. These diseases include arthritis (joint disorders), muscle disorders, bone disorders such as osteoporosis and connective tissue diseases.
Te Whatu Ora South Canterbury provides a comprehensive Rheumatology service including:
- Diagnosis and treatment.
- Twice weekly Rheumatology clinics at Timaru Hospital.
- Education classes for newly diagnosed rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis patients.
- Primary Care also provides a DXA scanning service to diagnose and treat patients with osteoporosis, this service is based at 23 Dee Street, Timaru.
